Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, Power and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.07%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index added 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Motors DV Ltd (NS:TAMdv), which rose 4.50% or 9.90 points to trade at 230.00 at the close. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) added 4.23% or 21.30 points to end at 524.65 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 4.10% or 20.45 points to 519.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Wipro Ltd (NS:WIPR), which lost 4.21% or 12.45 points to trade at 283.45 in late trade. GAIL Ltd (NS:GAIL) declined 1.73% or 7.05 points to end at 400.95 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) shed 1.23% or 12.55 points to 1007.60.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 4.24% to 524.25, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 4.20% to settle at 519.75 and Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which gained 3.62% to close at 403.90.
The worst performers were Wipro Ltd (BO:WIPR) which was down 4.10% to 283.90 in late trade, Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which lost 1.83% to settle at 400.00 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which was down 1.12% to 159.40 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 803 to 738 and 23 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1271 fell and 1266 advanced, while 130 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 2.42% to 11.4700 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 1.75 to $1329.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.65% or 0.32 to hit $49.62 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.60% or 0.33 to trade at $55.49 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.06% to 64.086, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 76.2879.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 92.33.
