Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Real Estate, Public Sector Undertakings and Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.54% to hit a new 1-month high, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.38%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF), which rose 7.85% or 60.95 points to trade at 839.65 at the close. Bajaj Finserv Ltd (NS:BJFS) added 3.99% or 245.30 points to end at 6405.45 and AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) was up 3.33% or 20.60 points to 641.65 in late trade.
Biggest losers included HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT), which lost 2.76% or 27.20 points to trade at 957.15 in late trade. Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) declined 2.39% or 10.35 points to end at 423.80 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 1.77% or 12.00 points to 664.85.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which rose 3.39% to 1400.40, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 3.18% to settle at 639.45 and State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which gained 2.68% to close at 300.40.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 2.10% to 424.00 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 1.70% to settle at 1611.95 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.64% to 665.25 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1078 to 504 and 65 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1587 rose and 948 declined, while 151 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.57% to 14.6600.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.12% or 1.55 to $1252.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.13% or 0.06 to hit $46.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.44% or 0.25 to trade at $56.51 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.04% to 70.376, while EUR/INR rose 0.05% to 80.2730.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 96.282.
