Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Capital Goods, Oil & Gas and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 added 0.79%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index gained 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which rose 7.13% or 33.25 points to trade at 499.70 at the close. Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL) added 6.06% or 17.90 points to end at 313.10 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 5.64% or 21.45 points to 402.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which lost 3.91% or 27.50 points to trade at 675.25 in late trade. Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) declined 2.43% or 5.15 points to end at 206.95 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) shed 2.07% or 19.00 points to 894.50.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which rose 7.11% to 499.70, Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was up 3.22% to settle at 284.95 and Larsen & Toubro Ltd (BO:LART) which gained 2.52% to close at 1377.60.
The worst performers were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 2.39% to 3503.80 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 2.31% to settle at 207.05 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 1.16% to 1214.50 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1179 to 423 and 38 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1787 rose and 820 declined, while 152 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 3.24% to 13.0550.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.48% or 6.20 to $1297.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 1.71% or 1.16 to hit $66.72 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 1.43% or 1.09 to trade at $75.38 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.59% to 67.325, while EUR/INR fell 0.53% to 78.4768.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.01% at 94.20.
