Investing.com – India equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Capital Goods and Banking sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 gained 0.96%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index climbed 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which rose 6.23% or 1366.45 points to trade at 23241.85 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (NS:IOC) added 4.44% or 6.00 points to end at 141.40 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.95% or 11.50 points to 303.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN), which lost 4.75% or 28.00 points to trade at 561.75 in late trade. Tata Motors Ltd (NS:TAMO) declined 3.65% or 6.80 points to end at 179.50 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 2.68% or 23.20 points to 841.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were ICICI Bank Ltd (BO:ICBK) which rose 2.44% to 360.90, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 2.36% to settle at 156.40 and AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which gained 2.05% to close at 618.60.
The worst performers were Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which was down 4.72% to 561.70 in late trade, Tata Motors Ltd (BO:TAMO) which lost 3.31% to settle at 179.80 and Tata Motors Ltd DVR (BO:TAMdv) which was down 2.24% to 98.35 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 798 to 793 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1278 rose and 1250 declined, while 133 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 3.47% to 18.6950.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.27% or 3.30 to $1198.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 2.72% or 1.63 to hit $58.30 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 2.67% or 1.87 to trade at $68.25 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.40% to 72.645, while EUR/INR fell 0.14% to 81.6090.
The US Dollar Index Futures was unchanged 0.00% at 97.38.
