Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Metals, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.15%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.13%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which rose 2.30% or 13.95 points to trade at 619.20 at the close. Bajaj Finance Ltd (NS:BJFN) added 1.83% or 29.85 points to end at 1654.20 and Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) was up 0.90% or 16.25 points to 1818.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which lost 3.65% or 23.20 points to trade at 606.75 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 2.60% or 13.55 points to end at 505.35 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) shed 2.08% or 8.05 points to 377.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 1.10% to 3034.50, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which was up 0.89% to settle at 1813.50 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.58% to close at 1163.40.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 4.66% to 605.60 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 2.85% to settle at 505.35 and Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 2.21% to 380.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 989 to 614 and 30 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1567 fell and 1084 advanced, while 145 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 0.41% to 14.5250.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.07% or 0.90 to $1320.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.73% or 0.44 to hit $60.56 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.88% or 0.56 to trade at $64.17 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.07% to 65.145, while EUR/INR fell 0.02% to 80.1350.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.09% at 90.19.
