Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Capital Goods and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.71% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which rose 1.31% or 4.30 points to trade at 329.85 at the close. Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL) added 0.76% or 2.30 points to end at 305.40 and Reliance Industries Ltd (NS:RELI) was up 0.76% or 7.00 points to 927.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC), which lost 5.91% or 40.75 points to trade at 648.85 in late trade. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) declined 2.44% or 9.90 points to end at 393.85 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) shed 2.65% or 58.55 points to 2152.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 0.66% to 305.00, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which was up 0.57% to settle at 540.80 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.46% to close at 1130.00.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 5.82% to 648.25 in late trade, Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which lost 2.77% to settle at 1112.05 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 2.75% to 2151.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1287 to 319 and 33 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1987 fell and 711 advanced, while 130 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 1.77% to 16.6675.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.42% or 5.70 to $1350.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.86% or 0.53 to hit $62.08 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.59% or 0.38 to trade at $65.22 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.22% to 64.545, while EUR/INR rose 0.28% to 79.8876.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 89.05.
