Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, IT and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.73%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which rose 4.76% or 17.85 points to trade at 393.00 at the close. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. (NS:IOC) added 4.15% or 16.60 points to end at 416.25 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) was up 3.36% or 15.80 points to 485.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH), which lost 2.84% or 778.65 points to trade at 26689.40 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 2.53% or 8.95 points to end at 344.45 and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) shed 2.63% or 29.30 points to 1088.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 1.71% to 305.70, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was up 1.33% to settle at 3688.50 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.72% to close at 591.30.
The worst performers were Asian Paints Ltd. (BO:ASPN) which was down 2.22% to 1128.90 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 1.98% to settle at 593.40 and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which was down 1.86% to 2312.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1244 to 358 and 27 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1998 fell and 761 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 8.23% to 16.4150.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.29% or 3.90 to $1344.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.69% or 0.45 to hit $65.11 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.18 to trade at $69.02 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.05% to 63.635, while EUR/INR rose 0.33% to 79.0136.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.22% at 88.97.
