Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Real Estate, Power and Fast Moving Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 0.80%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 0.68%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 2.83% or 62.10 points to trade at 2256.35 at the close. Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE) added 2.37% or 9.30 points to end at 402.50 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) was up 2.77% or 4.95 points to 183.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (NS:HPCL), which lost 4.07% or 17.60 points to trade at 414.95 in late trade. Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI) declined 3.29% or 12.10 points to end at 355.40 and Bharat Petroleum Corp. Ltd. (NS:BPCL) shed 3.02% or 15.55 points to 498.95.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (BO:REDY) which rose 2.83% to 2255.60, Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was up 2.46% to settle at 401.60 and Gail (India) Ltd. (BO:GAIL) which gained 2.39% to close at 492.45.
The worst performers were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 2.45% to 263.25 in late trade, Cipla Ltd. (BO:CIPL) which lost 2.17% to settle at 590.75 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 1.98% to 3444.95 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1067 to 505 and 32 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1665 fell and 959 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 7.88% to 15.2625 a new 6-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.13% or 1.60 to $1245.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.59% or 0.34 to hit $58.33 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.70 to trade at $65.39 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.09% to 64.415, while EUR/INR rose 0.17% to 75.8670.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 93.86.
