Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Metals, Public Sector Undertakings and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 0.93% to hit a new 3-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 0.77%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI), which rose 3.99% or 13.35 points to trade at 345.75 at the close. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS) added 2.17% or 46.30 points to end at 2179.15 and HCL Technologies Ltd (NS:HCLT) was up 0.74% or 7.55 points to 1023.60 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 9.45% or 8.95 points to trade at 86.05 in late trade. IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK) declined 7.16% or 102.60 points to end at 1337.30 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 6.57% or 36.80 points to 523.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which rose 3.19% to 345.60, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 2.32% to settle at 2179.00 and HCL Technologies Ltd (BO:HCLT) which gained 0.83% to close at 1023.85.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 9.13% to 86.10 in late trade, IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which lost 6.66% to settle at 1336.90 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 6.01% to 2259.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1326 to 258 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1868 fell and 537 advanced, while 101 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.21% to 13.6125.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.52% or 7.40 to $1427.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.06% or 0.60 to hit $57.47 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.08% or 0.69 to trade at $64.31 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 68.850, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 76.7540.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.812.
