Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Metals, Consumer Durables and Capital Goods sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 0.94%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (NS:TCS), which rose 1.85% or 50.20 points to trade at 2758.95 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 1.31% or 18.25 points to end at 1411.20 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (NS:SUN) was up 0.89% or 4.70 points to 532.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (NS:APSE), which lost 4.33% or 18.70 points to trade at 413.35 in late trade. Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. (NS:ARBN) declined 4.04% or 29.90 points to end at 710.20 and Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (NS:ONGC) shed 3.61% or 6.90 points to 184.20.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which rose 2.06% to 2758.90, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (BO:MAHM) which was up 1.27% to settle at 1411.05 and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which gained 0.99% to close at 532.50.
The worst performers were Adani Port and Special Economic Zone Ltd (BO:APSE) which was down 4.11% to 414.05 in late trade, Oil And Natural Gas Corporation Ltd (BO:ONGC) which lost 3.41% to settle at 184.30 and Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which was down 3.00% to 276.10 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1004 to 591 and 8 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1610 fell and 1069 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.23% to 14.0450 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.36% or 4.54 to $1278.74 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 0.07% or 0.04 to hit $56.70 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.33% or 0.21 to trade at $63.31 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.23% to 65.455, while EUR/INR rose 0.22% to 76.2128.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.21% at 94.50.
