Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Durables, Fast Moving Consumer Goods and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.32% to hit a new 1-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 1.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Coal India Ltd (NS:COAL), which rose 1.72% or 4.80 points to trade at 283.10 at the close. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (NS:MAHM) added 1.03% or 9.65 points to end at 943.15 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) was up 0.39% or 2.85 points to 734.30 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN), which lost 4.50% or 38.60 points to trade at 820.75 in late trade. Tata Steel Ltd (NS:TISC) declined 3.94% or 24.20 points to end at 592.10 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) shed 3.21% or 6.20 points to 186.90.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Coal India Ltd (BO:COAL) which rose 1.73% to 285.00, NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which was up 0.36% to settle at 169.55 and Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which gained 0.31% to close at 734.25.
The worst performers were Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was down 3.46% to 592.30 in late trade, Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which lost 3.21% to settle at 186.85 and Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was down 3.06% to 3178.00 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1243 to 376 and 48 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1780 fell and 822 advanced, while 144 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.84% to 15.3300 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.06% or 0.70 to $1199.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.34% or 0.23 to hit $67.77 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.75% or 0.58 to trade at $77.95 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.15% to 72.695, while EUR/INR rose 0.18% to 84.1575.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 95.22.
