Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Real Estate, Metals and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.62% to hit a new 6-month low, while the BSE Sensex 30 index lost 1.59%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Britannia Industries Ltd (NS:BRIT), which rose 1.72% or 40.90 points to trade at 2440.75 at the close. Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY) added 1.20% or 30.05 points to end at 2545.40 and Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML) was up 1.52% or 10.20 points to 682.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which lost 12.16% or 7.95 points to trade at 56.30 in late trade. Vedanta Ltd (NS:VDAN) declined 7.61% or 10.65 points to end at 129.05 and Indiabulls Housing Finance Ltd (NS:INBF) shed 5.18% or 25.05 points to 450.55.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which rose 1.57% to 683.00, Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was up 1.33% to settle at 2214.90 and Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (BO:HLL) which gained 1.03% to close at 1869.00.
The worst performers were Yes Bank Ltd (BO:YESB) which was down 13.91% to 56.30 in late trade, Vedanta Ltd (BO:VDAN) which lost 7.76% to settle at 129.05 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which was down 4.39% to 3117.80 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1320 to 266 and 45 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1876 fell and 501 advanced, while 117 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 4.88% to 17.8525 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.66% or 9.95 to $1505.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 0.57% or 0.32 to hit $56.00 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.53% or 0.32 to trade at $60.62 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.65% to 71.890, while EUR/INR rose 0.57% to 79.6180.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 98.225.
