Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 declined 1.73%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 2.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were NTPC Ltd (NS:NTPC), which rose 6.01% or 9.25 points to trade at 163.20 at the close. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:SBIL) added 2.31% or 26.50 points to end at 1,173.40 and HDFC Life Insurance Company Ltd (NS:HDFL) was up 1.70% or 9.60 points to 574.45 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY), which lost 7.27% or 127.15 points to trade at 1,621.40 in late trade. Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (NS:HDFC) declined 4.83% or 115.00 points to end at 2,263.50 and HDFC Bank Ltd (NS:HDBK) shed 4.74% or 69.50 points to 1,395.45.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were NTPC Ltd (BO:NTPC) which rose 6.11% to 163.30, Tata Steel Ltd (BO:TISC) which was up 1.51% to settle at 1,339.20 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which gained 1.37% to close at 7,574.55.
The worst performers were Infosys Ltd (BO:INFY) which was down 7.27% to 1,621.45 in late trade, Housing Development Finance Corporation Ltd (BO:HDFC) which lost 4.81% to settle at 2,263.05 and HDFC Bank Ltd (BO:HDBK) which was down 4.74% to 1,395.35 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1133 to 722 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1973 fell and 1429 advanced, while 143 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 8.72% to 19.33.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.76% or 15.05 to $1,989.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.24% or 0.26 to hit $106.12 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.15% or 0.17 to trade at $111.53 a barrel.
USD/INR was down 0.08% to 76.27, while EUR/INR fell 0.12% to 82.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.33% at 100.65.
