Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Banking, Power and Metals sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 1.81%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index declined 1.80%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd (NS:REDY), which rose 1.94% or 75.50 points to trade at 3975.05 at the close. Titan Company Ltd (NS:TITN) added 0.92% or 8.85 points to end at 975.20 and Bharti Airtel Ltd. (NS:BRTI) was up 0.27% or 1.60 points to 588.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which lost 5.49% or 29.65 points to trade at 510.00 in late trade. AXIS Bank Ltd (NS:AXBK) declined 4.90% or 21.55 points to end at 418.50 and Eicher Motors Ltd. (NS:EICH) shed 4.47% or 879.00 points to 18776.00.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Titan Company Ltd (BO:TITN) which rose 0.93% to 975.00, Bharti Airtel Ltd (BO:BRTI) which was up 0.40% to settle at 589.10 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which gained 0.02% to close at 2899.95.
The worst performers were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which was down 5.33% to 510.85 in late trade, AXIS Bank Ltd. (BO:AXBK) which lost 5.08% to settle at 418.00 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 3.59% to 5777.50 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1246 to 382 and 44 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1754 fell and 784 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 5.48% to 26.6375.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.99% or 17.90 to $1796.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 0.92% or 0.37 to hit $39.73 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.73% or 0.31 to trade at $42.41 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.27% to 75.393, while EUR/INR rose 0.53% to 85.7185.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 96.430.
