Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Metals, Banking and Public Sector Undertakings sectors propelled shares lower.

At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 lost 2.12%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 2.07%.

The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (NS:INBK), which rose 4.34% or 21.70 points to trade at 521.30 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 0.82% or 18.75 points to end at 2311.00 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (NS:PGRD) was up 0.65% or 1.10 points to 171.15 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Bharti Infratel Ltd (NS:BHRI), which lost 8.92% or 20.75 points to trade at 211.95 in late trade. Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd. (NS:ZEE) declined 6.74% or 12.80 points to end at 177.00 and State Bank Of India (NS:SBI) shed 5.59% or 10.50 points to 177.20.

The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were IndusInd Bank Ltd. (BO:INBK) which rose 4.49% to 523.20, Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which was up 0.75% to settle at 2309.35 and Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (BO:PGRD) which gained 0.53% to close at 171.00.

The worst performers were State Bank Of India (BO:SBI) which was down 5.64% to 177.20 in late trade, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. (BO:SUN) which lost 5.12% to settle at 473.60 and Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (BO:MRTI) which was down 4.16% to 5428.10 at the close.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1029 to 583 and 55 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1454 fell and 972 advanced, while 137 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.

The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was up 0.76% to 29.6600.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.03% or 17.75 to $1738.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.36% or 1.33 to hit $38.27 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.07% or 1.28 to trade at $40.45 a barrel.

USD/INR was up 0.18% to 75.748, while EUR/INR rose 0.29% to 86.2080.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.19% at 96.130.
