Investing.com – India equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the IT, Technology and Banking sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NSE, the Nifty 50 fell 4.00%, while the BSE Sensex 30 index fell 4.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nifty 50 were Yes Bank Ltd (NS:YESB), which rose 6.68% or 1.50 points to trade at 23.95 at the close. Hero MotoCorp Ltd (NS:HROM) added 2.96% or 47.30 points to end at 1643.75 and Bajaj Auto Ltd (NS:BAJA) was up 1.49% or 30.15 points to 2052.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Tech Mahindra Ltd (NS:TEML), which lost 9.51% or 53.80 points to trade at 511.70 in late trade. Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (NS:KTKM) declined 8.51% or 110.35 points to end at 1185.70 and Infosys Ltd (NS:INFY) shed 6.46% or 41.45 points to 600.05.
The top performers on the BSE Sensex 30 were Hero MotoCorp Ltd (BO:HROM) which rose 2.21% to 1629.45, Bajaj Auto Ltd (BO:BAJA) which was up 1.12% to settle at 2047.65 and Bajaj Finance Ltd (BO:BJFN) which gained 0.40% to close at 2225.00.
The worst performers were Tech Mahindra Ltd (BO:TEML) which was down 9.21% to 512.90 in late trade, Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd. (BO:KTKM) which lost 8.81% to settle at 1182.10 and Tata Consultancy Services Ltd. (BO:TCS) which was down 6.23% to 1709.55 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 758 to 739 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Bombay Stock Exchange, 1070 rose and 1017 declined, while 153 ended unchanged on the India National Stock Exchange.
The India VIX, which measures the implied volatility of Nifty 50 options, was down 6.76% to 60.0525.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.68% or 10.85 to $1607.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 0.54% or 0.11 to hit $20.59 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 3.04% or 0.80 to trade at $25.55 a barrel.
USD/INR was up 0.00% to 75.335, while EUR/INR fell 0.81% to 82.4090.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.61% at 99.695.
