Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Mining, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings Ltd. (TYO:3099), which rose 13.57% or 317.00 points to trade at 2,653.50 at the close. Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Holdings (TYO:8309) added 8.77% or 289.00 points to end at 3,584.00 and Sony Corp (TYO:6758) was up 8.23% or 985.00 points to 12,950.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nitori Holdings Co Ltd (TYO:9843), which lost 16.10% or 3,445.00 points to trade at 17,950.00 in late trade. Casio Computer Co., Ltd. (TYO:6952) declined 11.74% or 155.00 points to end at 1,165.00 and Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902) shed 8.99% or 48.80 points to 493.80.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2557 to 1129 and 190 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 1.41% to 18.23 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for June delivery was up 0.72% or 0.56 to $78.58 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in July rose 0.62% or 0.51 to hit $82.89 a barrel, while the June Gold Futures contract rose 0.14% or 3.20 to trade at $2,363.10 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.02% to 156.38, while EUR/JPY rose 0.03% to 169.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 104.85.
