Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic, Finance & Investment and Paper & Pulp sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 1.37%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Olympus Corp. (T:7733), which rose 5.35% or 215.0 points to trade at 4230.0 at the close. Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713) added 4.86% or 203.0 points to end at 4382.0 and Denso Corp. (T:6902) was up 4.83% or 259.0 points to 5621.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689), which lost 1.78% or 7.0 points to trade at 386.5 in late trade. Toshiba Corp. (T:6502) declined 1.65% or 5.0 points to end at 298.5 and Takeda Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (T:4502) shed 1.33% or 57.0 points to 4243.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2504 to 901 and 161 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.10% to 16.39.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for July delivery was up 0.24% or 0.16 to $65.97 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in August rose 0.07% or 0.05 to hit $76.84 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.12% or 1.60 to trade at $1297.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.01% to 109.52, while EUR/JPY rose 0.38% to 128.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.30% at 93.88.
