Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Marine Transport, Services and Food sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 0.95% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Pioneer Corp. (T:6773), which rose 5.59% or 10.0 points to trade at 189.0 at the close. Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. (T:7912) added 4.37% or 52.0 points to end at 1242.0 and Komatsu Ltd. (T:6301) was up 4.11% or 78.0 points to 1977.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nippon Paper Industries Co., Ltd. (T:3863), which lost 2.23% or 41.0 points to trade at 1799.0 in late trade. Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) declined 2.05% or 6.0 points to end at 286.0 and Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) shed 1.97% or 15.0 points to 748.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1168 to 731 and 157 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 4.87% to 28.31.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 1.39% or 0.62 to $45.37 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 1.12% or 0.52 to hit $46.78 a barrel, while the August Gold contract fell 0.78% or 10.45 to trade at $1333.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.93% to 105.47, while EUR/JPY rose 1.10% to 117.16.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.06% at 96.30.
