Investing.com – Japan equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Paper & Pulp, Railway & Bus and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 rose 2.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Keio Corp. (T:9008), which rose 7.73% or 67.0 points to trade at 934.0 at the close. Hokuetsu Kishu Paper Co., Ltd. (T:3865) added 7.42% or 48.0 points to end at 695.0 and Keisei Electric Railway Co., Ltd. (T:9009) was up 7.38% or 89.0 points to 1295.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sharp Corp. (T:6753), which lost 15.25% or 17.0 points to trade at 94.5 in late trade. Mazda Motor Corp. (T:7261) declined 9.67% or 151.5 points to end at 1414.5 and Nippon Sheet Glass Co., Ltd. (T:5202) shed 8.57% or 6.0 points to 64.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1592 to 347 and 60 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 12.13% to 35.77.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for August delivery was up 0.31% or 0.15 to $47.79 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in September rose 0.61% or 0.30 to hit $49.34 a barrel, while the August Gold contract rose 0.68% or 8.95 to trade at $1331.35 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.29% to 101.93, while EUR/JPY fell 0.92% to 112.59.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.53% at 96.14.
