Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Finance & Investment, Gas & Water and Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 declined 0.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752), which rose 8.78% or 91.0 points to trade at 1127.0 at the close. Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) added 5.59% or 22.0 points to end at 415.5 and Alps Electric Co., Ltd. (T:6770) was up 4.73% or 145.0 points to 3210.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Dainippon Pharma Co Ltd (T:4506), which lost 12.64% or 319.0 points to trade at 2205.0 in late trade. Taiyo Yuden Co., Ltd. (T:6976) declined 5.94% or 215.0 points to end at 3405.0 and Eisai Co., Ltd. (T:4523) shed 5.33% or 544.0 points to 9656.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1984 to 1420 and 181 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 2.32% to 16.01.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.93% or 0.64 to $69.33 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.24% or 0.18 to hit $74.94 a barrel, while the August Gold Futures contract fell 0.19% or 2.30 to trade at $1220.70 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was up 0.05% to 111.09, while EUR/JPY rose 0.12% to 129.62.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.08% at 94.39.
