Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Warehousing, Chemical, Petroleum & Plastic and Pharmaceutical Industry sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 lost 0.25%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Toyobo Co., Ltd. (T:3101), which rose 3.03% or 5.0 points to trade at 170.0 at the close. The Shizuoka Bank, Ltd. (T:8355) added 2.63% or 20.0 points to end at 781.0 and Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) was up 2.51% or 10.0 points to 408.0 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sumitomo Metal Mining Co., Ltd. (T:5713), which lost 4.87% or 65.0 points to trade at 1271.0 in late trade. Shiseido Co., Ltd. (T:4911) declined 4.71% or 125.5 points to end at 2539.0 and Toho Zinc Co., Ltd. (T:5707) shed 4.32% or 14.0 points to 310.0.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 959 to 923 and 174 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.77% to 22.99.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for October delivery was up 0.32% or 0.15 to $46.92 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.16% or 0.08 to hit $49.13 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.04% or 0.55 to trade at $1329.15 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 0.03% to 100.42, while EUR/JPY rose 0.01% to 113.16.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.02% at 94.71.
