Investing.com – Japan equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Shipbuilding, Finance & Investment and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 fell 1.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Softbank Corp. (T:9984), which rose 3.09% or 161.0 points to trade at 5379.1 at the close. Tokuyama Corp. (T:4043) added 2.74% or 8.0 points to end at 300.0 and Yahoo Japan Corp. (T:4689) was up 2.64% or 12.0 points to 466.5 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Toshiba Corp. (T:6502), which lost 9.18% or 27.2 points to trade at 269.1 in late trade. Ricoh Co., Ltd. (T:7752) declined 5.72% or 54.0 points to end at 890.0 and Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd. (T:6703) shed 5.52% or 8.0 points to 137.0.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1542 to 419 and 96 ended unchanged on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.
The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was up 1.78% to 29.66.
In commodities trading, Crude oil for September delivery was up 0.16% or 0.07 to $43.20 a barrel. Meanwhile, Brent oil for delivery in October rose 0.24% or 0.11 to hit $45.24 a barrel, while the December Gold contract fell 0.14% or 1.90 to trade at $1325.30 a troy ounce.
USD/JPY was down 1.38% to 104.35, while EUR/JPY fell 1.24% to 114.90.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.23% at 97.06.
