Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa added 0.84%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3), which rose 6.41% or 0.76 points to trade at 12.61 at the close. CEMIG - Companhia Energetica Minas Gerais Pref (SA:CMIG4) added 6.33% or 0.47 points to end at 7.90 and Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET6) was up 4.50% or 0.71 points to 16.50 in late trade.
Biggest losers included BR Malls Participacoes SA (SA:BRML3), which lost 2.45% or 0.30 points to trade at 11.94 in late trade. Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) declined 1.88% or 0.51 points to end at 26.69 and BRF SA (SA:BRFS3) shed 1.85% or 0.76 points to 40.30.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 219 to 126 and 43 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 9.66% to 30.94.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.47% or 5.87 to $1251.67 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.63% or 0.27 to hit $42.80 a barrel, while the September US coffee C contract fell 4.14% or 5.05 to trade at $116.92 .
USD/BRL was up 0.14% to 3.3401, while EUR/BRL rose 0.01% to 3.7255.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 97.24.
