Investing.com – Canada equities were slightly lower at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Healthcare and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite was down 0.17% in the day's trading.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hut 8 Mining Corp (TSX:HUT), which rose 12.11% or 1.000 points to trade at 9.260 at the close. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) added 7.26% or 0.30 points to end at 4.43 and New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) was up 6.97% or 0.140 points to 2.150 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 4.59% or 0.57 points to trade at 11.84 in late trade. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSX:AAV) declined 4.47% or 0.300 points to end at 6.410 and Peyto Exploration&Development Corp (TSX:PEY) shed 3.23% or 0.34 points to 10.18.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 11.23% to 24.96.
As of 3:45 ET, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.77% or 13.95 to $1821.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 0.97% or 0.90 to hit $91.41 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 0.55% or 0.51 to trade at $92.76 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.84% to 0.7897, while CAD/EUR rose 0.96% to 0.6906.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 95.418.
