Investing.com - Canadian equities started with gains on Thursday, with rises in Renewable Energy and Clean Technology, Health Care, Information Technology and Consumer Discretionary indices; while the REIT, Real Estate and Metals & Mining fell.
At the market open in Toronto, the TSX Composite Index climbed 0.87%. The TSX Venture and the TSX Smallcap also increased. The TSX Venture added 0.31%, while the Smallcap rose by 1.05%.

- MDA (TSX:MDA): Rose 11.85% or 1.43 points to 13.50
- OceanaGold (TSX:OGC): Climbed 9.33% or 0.280 points to 3.280
- ATS Corporation (TSX:ATS): Increased 6.45% or 2.42 points to 39.92
Top Losers:
- Maple Leaf Foods (TSX:MFI): Dropped 7.24% or 1.84 points to 23.59
- Pan American Silver NQ (TSX:PAAS): Declined 5.31% or 1.42 points to 25.34
- Granite REIT (TSX:GRT_u): Fell 4.23% or 3.09 points to 70.00
In Commodities Trading:
- Crude Oil for September delivery fell 0.05 points to 75.18 a barrel.
- October Brent Oil Contract dropped by 0.22% or 0.17 points to 78.16 a barrel.
- Gold Futures for December delivery rose 25.40 points to 2,457.80 a troy ounce.
Currency Markets:
- USD/CAD is stable in the 1.37 territory.
- EUR/CAD is again under 1.50.
- The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 103.177.
