Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.22%, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.42%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.91%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD), which rose 1.10% or 2.00 points to trade at 184.57 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 0.37% or 0.30 points to end at 80.75 and Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:KO) was up 0.23% or 0.11 points to 47.72 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which lost 3.19% or 4.36 points to trade at 132.24 in late trade. DowDuPont Inc (NYSE:DWDP) declined 3.13% or 1.82 points to end at 56.24 and United Technologies Corporation (NYSE:UTX) shed 2.49% or 2.84 points to 111.06.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Pacific Gas & Electric Co (NYSE:PCG) which rose 6.50% to 7.70, eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) which was up 6.13% to settle at 32.90 and Cboe Global Markets Inc (NYSE:CBOE) which gained 2.23% to close at 97.21.
The worst performers were Arconic Inc (NYSE:ARNC) which was down 15.98% to 17.09 in late trade, Stanley Black & Decker Inc (NYSE:SWK) which lost 15.48% to settle at 115.69 and Chesapeake Energy Corporation (NYSE:CHK) which was down 7.74% to 2.740 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Avalon Globocare Corp (NASDAQ:AVCO) which rose 124.11% to 12.550, Luokung Technology Corp (NASDAQ:LKCO) which was up 92.86% to settle at 13.500 and Bridgford Foods Corporation (NASDAQ:BRID) which gained 39.11% to close at 32.76.
The worst performers were Organogenesis Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ORGO) which was down 29.26% to 21.470 in late trade, Phunware Inc (NASDAQ:PHUN) which lost 32.89% to settle at 100.00 and Insignia Systems Inc (NASDAQ:ISIG) which was down 24.68% to 1.160 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2351 to 708 and 86 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2001 fell and 642 advanced, while 80 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 16.85% to 20.80.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.14% or 1.75 to $1284.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.02% or 1.09 to hit $52.95 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 2.07% or 1.30 to trade at $61.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.01% to 1.1362, while USD/JPY fell 0.25% to 109.39.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 95.975.
