Through a signed letter, United State Senators Elizabeth Warren, Edward J Markey, Jeffrey A. Merkley, and Richard J Durbin, among others, requested the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Department of Energy (DOE) to disclose the details of energy consumption and the greenhouse gas emission of crypto mining companies.
Notably, the letter revealed that an earlier investigation regarding the “environmental impacts of cryptocurrency mining” has unveiled the rapidly increasing energy use as well as the gas emission from the miners.
In addition, Congress requested the EPA and DOE to use their authority to “require emissions and energy use disclosures by crypto miners.”
