Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Friday, as gains in the Mining, Financials and Energy sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 2.43%.
The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb), which rose 25.05% or 1.29 points to trade at 6.44 at the close. Meanwhile, First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM) added 11.90% or 0.35 points to end at 3.29 and Lundin Mining Corporation (TO:LUN) was up 11.29% or 0.35 points to 3.45 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Quebecor Inc (TO:QBRb), which fell 2.91% or 1.01 points to trade at 33.64 at the close. Athabasca Oil Corp (TO:ATH) declined 2.61% or 0.03 points to end at 1.12 and Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) was down 2.28% or 0.35 points to 14.98.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 789 to 420 and 336 ended unchanged.
Shares in Athabasca Oil Corp (TO:ATH) fell to all time lows; losing 2.61% or 0.03 to 1.12. Shares in Hudson's Bay Company (TO:HBC) fell to 52-week lows; down 2.28% or 0.35 to 14.98.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 8.28% to 29.34.
Gold for April delivery was down 0.68% or 8.50 to $1239.30 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 10.97% or 2.88 to hit $29.09 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 9.36% or 2.81 to trade at $32.88 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.60% to 0.7219, while CAD/EUR rose 1.20% to 0.6415.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.38% at 96.00.
