Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Clean Technology, Materials and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite rose 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were B2Gold Corp (TO:BTO), which rose 5.46% or 0.200 points to trade at 3.860 at the close. Torex Gold Resources Inc (TO:TXG) added 5.09% or 1.530 points to end at 31.610 and Alacer Gold Corp (TO:ASR) was up 5.02% or 0.150 points to 3.140 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Veresen Inc . (TO:VSN), which lost 3.48% or 0.45 points to trade at 12.48 in late trade. Enerflex Ltd . (TO:EFX) declined 2.47% or 0.33 points to end at 13.05 and Eldorado Gold Corporation (TO:ELD) shed 2.34% or 0.11 points to 4.60.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 603 to 541 and 129 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 4.30% to 15.03.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.32% or 4.25 to $1325.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 1.20% or 0.56 to hit $47.33 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.22% or 0.60 to trade at $49.65 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.06% to 0.7732, while CAD/EUR fell 0.13% to 0.6858.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.01% at 94.72.
