Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.03%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.39%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.35% or 0.50 points to trade at 37.43 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.23% or 1.90 points to end at 156.12 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was up 1.05% or 0.35 points to 33.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which lost 1.89% or 1.98 points to trade at 102.68 in late trade. E I du Pont de Nemours & Co (NYSE:DD) declined 1.81% or 1.48 points to end at 80.13 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 1.46% or 0.69 points to 46.67.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which rose 9.94% to 21.67, Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was up 9.26% to settle at 19.820 and Intuit Inc (NASDAQ:INTU) which gained 8.48% to close at 125.63.
The worst performers were Teradata Corporation (NYSE:TDC) which was down 8.22% to 29.37 in late trade, F5 Networks Inc (NASDAQ:FFIV) which lost 7.51% to settle at 126.99 and EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) which was down 7.07% to 59.37 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were InfoSonics Corp (NASDAQ:IFON) which rose 34.04% to 0.630, Smith Micro Software Inc (NASDAQ:SMSI) which was up 29.89% to settle at 1.1300 and Medical Tra (NASDAQ:MTBC) which gained 27.66% to close at 1.5575.
The worst performers were Synchronoss Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SNCR) which was down 46.02% to 13.29 in late trade, Ocean Power Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:OPTT) which lost 29.21% to settle at 1.430 and American Superconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:AMSC) which was down 27.14% to 5.61 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1630 to 1578 and 36 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1375 fell and 1129 advanced, while 114 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.33% to 10.38 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.12% or 1.54 to $1265.74 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.75% or 0.37 to hit $49.25 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 0.63% or 0.33 to trade at $52.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.27% to 1.0875, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 111.18.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 98.99.
