Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Industrials and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Teck Resources Ltd (TO:TCKb), which rose 8.00% or 1.66 points to trade at 22.41 at the close. Home Capital Group Inc . (TO:HCG) added 3.77% or 1.05 points to end at 28.93 and New Gold Inc . (TO:NGD) was up 3.22% or 0.210 points to 6.730 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Transcontinental Inc (TO:TCLa), which lost 3.39% or 0.65 points to trade at 18.50 in late trade. Raging River Exploration Inc. (TO:RRX) declined 2.45% or 0.27 points to end at 10.75 and Baytex Energy Corp (TO:BTE) shed 2.35% or 0.15 points to 6.23.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 613 to 532 and 137 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 2.52% to 13.52.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 0.00% or 0.05 to $1325.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October fell 1.41% or 0.67 to hit $46.97 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract fell 1.46% or 0.73 to trade at $49.42 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.10% to 0.7681, while CAD/EUR fell 0.04% to 0.6865.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 95.53.
