SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS The South African rand rallied against a weaker dollar on Wednesday as top trading partner China pledged more fiscal spending to support its own slowing economy. MARKETS The Kenyan shilling KES= firmed against the dollar on Wednesday amid tightening liquidity in the local money market and inflows from diaspora remittances subduing merchant importer demand, traders said. EUROBONDS Kenya is discussing issuing a Eurobond to help fund the 2018-2019 budget deficit, the finance ministry said on Wednesday, with a banking source valuing it at $2.5 billion, to be issued in dollars or euros. POLITICS Soldiers beat people overnight on the streets of Zimbabwe's capital and its second city, Bulawayo, residents said, hours after President Emmerson Mnangagwa promised to investigate a security service crackdown on anti-government protesters. REPUBLIC OF CONGO ELECTION Democratic Republic of Congo's outgoing President Joseph Kabila said he would hand over power on Thursday "without regret" and called on Congolese to support his successor, Felix Tshisekedi.
