Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Electric Power, Financials and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa gained 1.01% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Qualicorp SA (SA:QUAL3), which rose 8.27% or 2.05 points to trade at 26.85 at the close. Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) added 4.25% or 0.63 points to end at 15.45 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3) was up 3.98% or 0.61 points to 15.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which lost 4.53% or 0.21 points to trade at 4.43 in late trade. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) declined 3.51% or 0.35 points to end at 9.62 and Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) shed 3.27% or 0.14 points to 4.14.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 209 to 158 and 34 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 4.29% to 31.46.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.35% or 4.30 to $1228.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.08% or 0.04 to hit $47.87 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.41% or 0.55 to trade at $134.82 .
USD/BRL was down 0.39% to 3.1253, while EUR/BRL rose 0.26% to 3.4166.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 99.05.
