Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Electric Power, Consumption and Public Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 0.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4), which rose 3.00% or 0.13 points to trade at 4.47 at the close. Gerdau SA Pref (SA:GGBR4) added 2.46% or 0.23 points to end at 9.57 and Cielo SA (SA:CIEL3) was up 2.33% or 0.52 points to 22.88 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Cia Paranaense de Energia (SA:CPLE6), which lost 7.69% or 2.14 points to trade at 25.70 in late trade. Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (SA:ELET3) declined 3.31% or 0.44 points to end at 12.85 and Cosan SA Industria e Comercio (SA:CSAN3) shed 3.31% or 1.14 points to 33.27.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 247 to 149 and 47 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 0.95% to 35.23.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.87% or 11.30 to $1281.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to hit $45.72 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.34% or 0.43 to trade at $126.33 .
USD/BRL was down 0.20% to 3.2634, while EUR/BRL fell 0.59% to 3.6595.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.27% at 96.93.
