Investing.com – Brazil equities were lower at the close on Monday, as losses in the Electric Power, Public Utilities and Real Estate sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Braskem SA (SA:BRKM5), which rose 6.23% or 1.50 points to trade at 25.56 at the close. Fibria Celulose SA (SA:FIBR3) added 6.19% or 1.88 points to end at 32.25 and Suzano Papel e Celulose SA (SA:SUZB5) was up 5.02% or 0.61 points to 12.75 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR4), which lost 8.53% or 0.69 points to trade at 7.40 in late trade. Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) declined 8.42% or 0.17 points to end at 1.85 and ALL America Latina Logistica SA (SA:RUMO3) shed 8.15% or 0.29 points to 3.27.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 169 to 152 and 22 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.96% to 50.68.
In commodities trading, Gold for April delivery was down 1.90% or 23.90 to $1235.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 2.96% or 1.14 to hit $37.36 a barrel, while the May US coffee C contract rose 1.02% or 1.29 to trade at $127.17 .
USD/BRL was up 2.05% to 3.6552, while EUR/BRL rose 1.59% to 4.0589.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.38% at 96.59.
