Investing.com – Brazil equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Financials and Electric Power sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.65% to hit a new 52-week high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Bovespa were Petroleo Brasileiro SA (SA:PETR3), which rose 4.35% or 0.70 points to trade at 16.80 at the close. Metalurgica Gerdau SA (SA:GOAU4) added 3.88% or 0.140 points to end at 3.750 and Petroleo Brasileiro SA PN (SA:PETR4) was up 3.57% or 0.52 points to 15.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JBS SA (SA:JBSS3), which lost 2.57% or 0.33 points to trade at 12.53 in late trade. EcoRodovias SA (SA:ECOR3) declined 2.24% or 0.21 points to end at 9.17 and Natura Cosmeticos SA (SA:NATU3) shed 1.98% or 0.65 points to 32.25.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 219 to 135 and 33 ended unchanged on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 0.68% to 35.02.
In commodities trading, Gold for December delivery was down 1.01% or 12.85 to $1255.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.55% or 0.77 to hit $50.60 a barrel, while the December US coffee C contract fell 1.41% or 2.09 to trade at $146.23 .
USD/BRL was up 0.17% to 3.2257, while EUR/BRL fell 0.33% to 3.5963.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.59% at 96.70.
