France stocks lower at close of trade; CAC 40 down 4.05%

Investing.com – France stocks were lower after the close on Thursday, as losses in the Banking, Beverage and Foods & Drugs sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Paris, the CAC 40 declined 4.05% to hit a new 52-week low, while the SBF 120 index declined 3.92%.

The best performers of the session on the CAC 40 were Publicis Groupe SA (PA:PUBP), which rose 1.76% or 0.93 points to trade at 53.65 at the close. Meanwhile, Danone SA (PA:DANO) fell 2.01% or 1.19 points to end at 58.14 and Sanofi SA (PA:SASY) was down 2.10% or 1.44 points to 67.27 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Societe Generale (PA:SOGN), which fell 12.57% or 3.95 points to trade at 27.46 at the close. AXA SA (PA:AXAF) declined 6.97% or 1.42 points to end at 18.89 and ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) was down 6.82% or 0.19 points to 2.62.

The top performers on the SBF 120 were CGG (PA:GEPH) which rose 6.38% to 0.50, Genfit (PA:GNFT) which was up 6.01% to settle at 27.500 and Natixis (PA:CNAT) which gained 5.56% to close at 4.329.

The worst performers were Korian Medica SA (PA:KORI) which was down 14.66% to 24.620 in late trade, Societe Generale (PA:SOGN) which lost 12.57% to settle at 27.46 and Rexel (PA:RXL) which was down 10.89% to 8.76 at the close.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Paris Stock Exchange by 633 to 74 and 75 ended unchanged.

Shares in Societe Generale (PA:SOGN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 12.57% or 3.95 to 27.46. Shares in AXA SA (PA:AXAF) fell to 52-week lows; falling 6.97% or 1.42 to 18.89. Shares in Sanofi SA (PA:SASY) fell to 3-years lows; falling 2.10% or 1.44 to 67.27. Shares in ArcelorMittal SA (AS:ISPA) fell to 5-year lows; down 6.82% or 0.19 to 2.62. Shares in Korian Medica SA (PA:KORI) fell to 52-week lows; down 14.66% or 4.230 to 24.620. Shares in Societe Generale (PA:SOGN) fell to 52-week lows; falling 12.57% or 3.95 to 27.46. Shares in Rexel (PA:RXL) fell to 5-year lows; falling 10.89% or 1.07 to 8.76.

The CAC 40 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of CAC 40 options, was up 19.67% to 39.27 a new 3-years high.

Gold for April delivery was up 5.11% or 61.10 to $1255.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 2.35% or 0.65 to hit $26.80 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.75% or 0.54 to trade at $30.30 a barrel.

EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.1352, while EUR/GBP rose 1.05% to 0.7856.

The US Dollar Index was down 0.40% at 95.46.
