Investing.com – Brazil stocks were higher after the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Public Utilities and Electric Power sectors led shares higher.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa rose 0.30%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cia Siderurgica Nacional SA (SA:CSNA3), which rose 17.31% or 0.85 points to trade at 5.76 at the close. Meanwhile, Usinas Siderurgicas de Minas Gerais (SA:USIM5) added 13.41% or 0.33 points to end at 2.79 and Souza Cruz SA (SA:CRUZ3) was up 8.77% or 2.42 points to 30.00 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were MRV Engenharia e Participacoes SA (SA:MRVE3), which fell 4.33% or 0.39 points to trade at 8.61 at the close. Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) declined 3.33% or 0.53 points to end at 15.40 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) was down 2.54% or 0.05 points to 1.92.
Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 156 to 151 and 6 ended unchanged.
Shares in Souza Cruz SA (SA:CRUZ3) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 8.77% or 2.42 to 30.00.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 3.07% to 43.50.
Gold for December delivery was down 0.05% or 0.50 to $1068.10 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.20% or 0.08 to hit $40.75 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 1.71% or 2.02 to trade at $116.08 .
USD/BRL was down 0.82% to 3.7790, while EUR/BRL fell 0.82% to 4.0226.
The US Dollar Index was up 0.05% at 99.77.
