Proactive Investors - Facebook (NASDAQ:META) and WhatsApp parent Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META, ETR:FB2A, SWX:FB) and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL, ETR:APC) have reportedly been in talks over integrating Meta’s generative AI model into Apple Intelligence, according to a Wall Street Journal report citing sources with knowledge of the matter.
Apple announced its AI system for iPhones and its other devices Apple Intelligence at its annual developers conference in early June.
At the time, Apple said it would be working with OpenAI to introduce its ChatGPT to its voice assistant Siri.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple is also in talks with AI startups Anthropic and Perplexity about bringing their GenAI to Apple Intelligence.
AI firms are hoping to take advantage of Apple’s massive distribution through its iPhones “similar to what Apple offers with its App Store on the iPhone,” the report said.
It suggested that should Apple strike deals with other partners on top of OpenAI, “customers could choose which external AI models they want to use in addition to Apple’s internal systems.”
Neither Apple or Meta had responded to the report at the time of writing.
