PARIS, Nov 28 (Reuters) - About 50 investigators from the Paris financial prosecutor's department have raided the offices of state-owned nuclear group Areva on Tuesday, said an Areva spokeswoman, confirming an earlier report from French TV channel M6.
The spokeswoman confirmed the raid at the company's headquarters in Paris' La Defense district, but declined to give details about the investigation.
In 2014, the financial prosecutor's body had already searched Areva's headquarters and the homes of former Areva executives as part of an investigation into Areva's $2.5-billion acquisition of Canadian uranium mining company UraMin in 2007.
In May 2016, former Areva chief executive Anne Lauvergeon - who ran the company from 2001 to 2011 - was put under formal investigation for her role in the UraMin acquisition.
Lauvergeon has repeatedly denied all wrongdoing in the case.
Areva has had to write down billions of euros on UraMin, which contributed to years of losses which eventually wiped out Areva's equity and led to a government rescue package last year.
As part of the rescue, Areva has agreed to sell its nuclear reactor unit Areva NP to state-owned utility EDF EDF.PA .
