Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Materials, Energy and Clean Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.04% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Baytex Energy Corp (TSX:BTE), which rose 9.36% or 0.16 points to trade at 1.87 at the close. First Majestic Silver Corp. (TSX:FR) added 8.06% or 1.10 points to end at 14.75 and Alamos Gold Inc (TSX:AGI) was up 7.86% or 0.54 points to 7.41 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB), which lost 9.83% or 0.290 points to trade at 2.660 in late trade. Hexo Corp (TSX:HEXO) declined 4.92% or 0.1300 points to end at 2.5100 and Enghouse Systems Ltd (TSX:ENGH) shed 3.93% or 2.01 points to 49.20.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 611 to 472 and 107 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.55% or 8.15 to $1489.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.38% or 0.23 to hit $60.67 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.64% or 0.42 to trade at $66.56 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.01% to 0.7606, while CAD/EUR fell 0.07% to 0.6858.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.02% at 97.255.
