Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Healthcare, IT and Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 7.90% or 0.95 points to trade at 12.98 at the close. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) added 7.41% or 0.280 points to end at 4.060 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 7.36% or 0.600 points to 8.750 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Computer Modelling Group Ltd. (TO:CMG), which lost 9.93% or 0.75 points to trade at 6.80 in late trade. Boardwalk REIT (TO:BEI_u) declined 8.90% or 4.37 points to end at 44.72 and Canfor Corporation (TO:CFP) shed 7.83% or 1.53 points to 18.01.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 659 to 446 and 116 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 3.82% to 18.15.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.20% or 14.40 to $1213.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.50% or 0.28 to hit $56.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.82% or 0.54 to trade at $66.66 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.52% to 0.7590, while CAD/EUR rose 0.34% to 0.6699.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.91.
