Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Financials and REITs sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite gained 0.39% to hit a new 1-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were First Quantum Minerals Ltd . (TO:FM), which rose 14.79% or 1.62 points to trade at 12.57 at the close. Centerra Gold Inc (TO:CG) added 6.90% or 0.40 points to end at 6.20 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TO:ACB) was up 4.86% or 0.45 points to 9.71 in late trade.
Biggest losers included NFI Group Inc (TO:NFI), which lost 14.31% or 4.86 points to trade at 29.10 in late trade. IAMGold Corporation (TO:IMG) declined 10.55% or 0.500 points to end at 4.240 and Bombardier Inc (TO:BBDb) shed 3.79% or 0.080 points to 2.030.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 580 to 509 and 123 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.17% to 17.39 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 4.95 to $1293.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 0.44% or 0.23 to hit $52.34 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.15% or 0.70 to trade at $61.34 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.09% to 0.7544, while CAD/EUR rose 0.28% to 0.6622.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 95.725.
