Investing.com – Canada equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Energy, REITs and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.87% to hit a new 6-month high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Enerplus Corporation (TSX:ERF), which rose 7.69% or 0.21 points to trade at 2.94 at the close. Parex Resources Inc (TSX:PXT) added 7.39% or 1.10 points to end at 15.99 and MEG Energy Corp (TSX:MEG) was up 6.78% or 0.20 points to 3.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Kinaxis Inc (TSX:KXS), which lost 4.57% or 7.98 points to trade at 166.63 in late trade. Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) declined 4.04% or 0.375 points to end at 8.905 and Altus Group Limited (TSX:AIF) shed 4.02% or 2.07 points to 49.48.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 697 to 343 and 109 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0% to 11.27.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.03% or 0.55 to $1885.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 3.21% or 1.29 to hit $41.42 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 2.69% or 1.15 to trade at $43.93 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.37% to 0.7641, while CAD/EUR rose 0.26% to 0.6451.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 92.608.
