Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Energy, Financials and Mining sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.04%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were BRP Inc (TO:DOO), which rose 7.13% or 3.15 points to trade at 47.34 at the close. Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TO:IVN) added 5.58% or 0.140 points to end at 2.650 and ECN Capital Corp (TO:ECN) was up 5.06% or 0.17 points to 3.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Trican Well Service Ltd . (TO:TCW), which lost 8.96% or 0.120 points to trade at 1.220 in late trade. Advantage Oil & Gas Ltd. (TO:AAV) declined 7.03% or 0.180 points to end at 2.380 and Transcontinental Inc (TO:TCLa) shed 6.22% or 1.33 points to 20.05.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 578 to 523 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.29% to 17.18.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.24% or 2.90 to $1227.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 1.42% or 0.73 to hit $50.72 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 1.19% or 0.71 to trade at $59.20 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.11% to 0.7520, while CAD/EUR rose 0.58% to 0.6645.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.46% at 97.145.
