Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Clean Technology, Healthcare and IT sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite lost 0.17%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Equinox Gold Corp (TSX:EQX), which rose 9.21% or 0.50 points to trade at 5.93 at the close. Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX:FVI) added 7.23% or 0.34 points to end at 5.04 and Sandstorm Gold Ltd . (TSX:SSL) was up 5.03% or 0.38 points to 7.93 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Ballard Power Systems Inc (TSX:BLDP), which lost 10.55% or 0.87 points to trade at 7.38 in late trade. goeasy Ltd (TSX:GSY) declined 4.75% or 5.51 points to end at 110.59 and Canopy Growth Corp (TSX:WEED) shed 4.75% or 0.17 points to 3.41.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 585 to 427 and 84 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 15.41.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 1.42% or 27.05 to $1,934.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.19% or 0.95 to hit $80.75 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.49% or 1.27 to trade at $86.25 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.22% to 0.74, while CAD/EUR unchanged 0.13% to 0.69.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.28% at 101.82.
