Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Materials, Consumer Staples and Industrials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Hudson's Bay Company (TSX:HBC), which rose 20.93% or 1.71 points to trade at 9.88 at the close. Cronos Group Inc (TSX:CRON) added 15.53% or 1.3400 points to end at 9.9700 and Aurora Cannabis Inc (TSX:ACB) was up 12.85% or 0.320 points to 2.810 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Silvercorp Metals Inc (TSX:SVM), which lost 3.30% or 0.250 points to trade at 7.330 in late trade. Real Matters Inc (TSX:REAL) declined 2.92% or 0.37 points to end at 12.32 and Semafo Inc . (TSX:SMF) shed 2.88% or 0.08 points to 2.70.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 552 to 436 and 132 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.68.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.12% or 1.85 to $1520.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.83% or 0.51 to hit $61.17 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.96% or 0.64 to trade at $66.03 a barrel.
CAD/USD was up 0.65% to 0.7702, while CAD/EUR rose 0.51% to 0.6867.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.27% at 96.150.
