Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the REITs, Real Estate and Energy sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite fell 0.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Interfor Corp (TO:IFP), which rose 15.36% or 2.39 points to trade at 17.95 at the close. Western Forest Products Inc (TO:WEF) added 14.52% or 0.270 points to end at 2.130 and MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd (TO:MAXR) was up 11.88% or 2.26 points to 21.29 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Sleep Country Canada Holdings Inc (TO:ZZZ), which lost 13.21% or 3.63 points to trade at 23.84 in late trade. Artis REIT (TO:AX_u) declined 11.89% or 1.36 points to end at 10.08 and Dorel Industries Inc (TO:DIIb) shed 8.29% or 1.84 points to 20.36.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 727 to 383 and 115 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.75% to 18.61.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.11% or 1.30 to $1234.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December fell 1.11% or 0.71 to hit $62.98 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract fell 0.29% or 0.21 to trade at $72.68 a barrel.
CAD/USD was down 0.20% to 0.7627, while CAD/EUR fell 0.01% to 0.6697.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.20% at 96.27.
