Investing.com – Canada equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the IT, Healthcare and Consumer Discretionary sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite declined 0.69%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were OceanaGold Corporation (TSX:OGC), which rose 4.55% or 0.10 points to trade at 2.30 at the close. New Gold Inc (TSX:NGD) added 4.44% or 0.04 points to end at 0.94 and Wesdome Gold Mines Ltd. (TSX:WDO) was up 4.37% or 0.40 points to 9.55 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Shopify Inc (TSX:SHOP), which lost 13.63% or 6.42 points to trade at 40.69 in late trade. Nuvei Corp (TSX:NVEI) declined 7.66% or 3.33 points to end at 40.12 and Canada Goose Holdings Inc (TSX:GOOS) shed 6.90% or 1.68 points to 22.68.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 556 to 440 and 103 ended unchanged on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
The S&P/TSX 60 VIX, which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was up 3.89% to 23.21.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.21% or 3.55 to $1,715.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 1.48% or 1.43 to hit $95.27 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.70% or 0.70 to trade at $99.49 a barrel.
CAD/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 0.78, while CAD/EUR rose 0.81% to 0.77.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.66% at 107.06.
